Exclusively breastfeeding is best for babies. Introducing partial bottle feeding may adversely affect breastfeeding by reducing the supply of breast milk. If you are considering using bottles and teats to offer expressed breast milk (EBM) to your baby or introducing partial bottle feeding, it is important in the first instance, to discuss your plan with the health professional(s) caring for you & your baby.
There are situations when Nipple Shields can be very useful however they should never be the first solution for sore nipples and should always be used with guidance from your Midwife, Breastfeeding Counsellor or IBCLC Lactation Consultant.
Unimom Nipple Shields are made of thin soft silicone that does not interfere with stimulation. These are an effective breastfeeding aid when nipples are flat, sensitive or wounded, for feeding a premature, small or ill infant, or when trying to wean a bottle fed baby back to the breast.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
These are pre-sterilised for the first use.
Rub some breast milk on the nipple shield.
